Today’s Communications
Telephone - the analogue telephone allows a caller to connect to another person through telephone exchanges. Switches form an electrical connection that is determined by the number dialed. The voice is transformed into electronic signals that are moved along wires and then transformed back into sound in the speaker of the receiving handset.
Mobile Phones - here the voice content is transmitted digitally. The number of mobile phones is quickly outgrowing the traditional analogue phones.
Radio and Television - this telecommunication is carried by central towers that use high frequency electromagnetic waves. These waves are sent to low powered receivers that translate the data into broadcast material. Although currently there are both analogue and digital signals, in 2009 all television signals in the United States will be required to be digital.
Internet - this is the world wide network of computers and computer networks that communicate to one another by using Internet Protocol. Computers send messages to each other by using distinct IP addresses.
