History

Modern telecommunications (with the use of electrical currents) began back in 1839 with the first commercial electrical telegraph being constructed. This was followed by the telephone in 1876. By 1901, wireless communication over long distances (between Canada and England) was demonstrated.

Moving pictures came along by 1925 and gave birth to television. By 1940 the computer made its first debut. The internet had its beginning back in 1969 but was not fully established until 1981 with the introduction of TCP/IP that much of the modern internet relies on today.

In just over one hundred years the communication went from pigeons, smoke signals and the Pony Express to instant communications around the world.
